                                                Tip Line                              Résumé Service Link

The résumé is the first impression of you given to a prospective employer.  Hiring managers make many judgments based on the look and feel of the résumé as well as its contents.  Many books available provide advice and instruction on résumé writing.  The authors of these books are usually former HR professionals, writers and/or business professionals familiar with résumés and hiring practices.  For the most part the advice is sound but general in nature and cannot take into account regional job markets and the constant change in style and format, what worked 5 years ago is no longer effective today.

A local résumé writer, familiar with the job local market and the current effective format and style will give you the competitive advantage in having your résumé read. It must represent you as a high value problem solver that will bring revenue or savings to the company.  Remember the purpose of the résumé is to get the interview; hiring managers will spend only a short amount of time to scan and select a qualified résumé. Make your résumé stand out and quickly demonstrate your value.

Job seekers are also up against résumé screening software, this very sophisticated software will quickly identify and eliminate candidates based solely on key words, this reduces the chances of your résumé being viewed by a human being.  It is sad but true, most résumés are filtered out before a human ever sees it.  A good résumé with the appropriate key words will increase your résumés' chance of being read.  Also as part of an effective strategy your résumé must be presented to those of influence who appreciate the essence of the person, not the words in a document.  My résumé process ensures you will be at the top of the pile!

About Me

I have written hundreds of résumés and have read thousands from single page first job résumés to multi-page CVs.  I am an active member in the local job market and work with hiring managers, HR professionals and job seekers.  I volunteer my time and expertise to a number of job assistance groups such as WorkNet Pinellas, Jobing.com.  I am also a Career Coach and work with clients in meeting their career objectives.  My extensive experience and the ability to stay on top of the rules of finding a job allow me to offer a very effective résumé service to my clients.

Service Overview

The service begins with a meeting to discuss your career goals and  a review of your current résumé.  Feedback is provided and a plan of action is determined.  If you and I decide to move forward in the process, you will receive a workbook to complete and a link to a Myers Briggs Assessment.  Once you have completed the homework and return it to me a first draft will be sent to you, usually within 24 hours.  You will review the first draft of the résumé, make any corrections and return for final edits.  The entire process should take you at least four days.  The workbook assignment will enable you to remember and document your career history and the elements of your career that made you successful in the past and your value in future positions.  When the process is complete you will have a resume that communicates value and prepares you to conduct a successful job search.

Getting Started

Send me a copy of your résumé and a sample of the most recent cover letter you have used via email  Russ@mycareerstartshere.com or from my contact page.  I will review your résumé and cover letter and contact you with the results of my assessment.  Based on your needs we can arrange a meeting or you can make changes on your résumé based on my recommendations.  At the meeting, we will discuss your résumé and cover letter and review your career objectives.  At that time, we will decide if the résumé service is for you.  My process requires work on your part to allow me to create the best résumé for your situation and the current job market.

Caution

If you are looking for a quick one-page revision of your current résumé, my service may not be for you.  However, if you have had no interview activity or if you have to make a career transition, my service is the solution to your résumé problem.

The résumé is developed with you to meet your career goals, whether remaining in the same field, or transitioning into a new career.
